ps3 update problem

My brother just got gta 5 for ps3 and since we don't use it much it needed to be updated after letting that run the system restarted but there was no output on the system. After letting it sit for a bit thinking it may start back up nothing happened so he  tried restarted it with no effect on its condition. I suggested that the update may have changed the video output so we did the hold the power button trick but that didn't help. We searched for out av cable and tried that but no output was on that as well. So now we have a ps3 that has no output on hdmi and av but does have a little hard drive activity and the controller syncs and it isn't yellow light of death-ed. Go consoles...
