H81M VS H97

Okay, first of all I'm pretty sure it's called h81 and the "m" means it's a micro atx or mini itx motherboard. H97 does have more features and may prove more useful if you need them. But like you said, if you don't need M.2. or anything like overclocking or xmp profiles then you're fine.
