$75 for a Z170... I don't think there'e even one at that price. You're putting money in the wrong places.

Cut down on the RAM. 32GB is way too overkill for the majority of people. Also, get a cheaper PSU that doesn't compromise quality like the EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2. That GTX 980 won't need a 650W PSU.

Invest the money into a motherboard like this and a decent aftermarket cooler for overclocking if you don't have one already (the Cryorig H7 and the beQuiet! Pure Rock are both good options).

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Why do you need a 1tb ssd? You could cut back on storage price with a smaller ssd and hard drive and use the money for the mobo.

What are you using this machine for...unless you are doing heavy encoding, video editing, photo editing, content creation...you probably don't need 32GB of ram. I also don't see anything about a power supply in your parts list....I would highly advise you to buy a quality power supply and save some more money and by a reasonable board.

Given that you are buying a K series processor you MUST buy a Z170 board to pair with it. Given your budget why would you skimp on the key component....

Since you have decided on processor...then choose board...then ram...then drives....etc. Don't skimp on the things that are the most important part of your build.

1) 32GB of memory is ridiculous.

2) That PSU is too shitty and expensive for the system

3) That case is too expensive

4) Where's your CPU cooler?

5) The GTX 980 is not a good card from a price to performance standpoint. it's much more expensive than the GTX 970, and barely performs better. You'd be better off sticking to the R9 390, or if you must have 1440p performance jump to the 980ti. If this is for standard 1080p 60hz display, just get the R9 390. Also the 980 you're getting is super expensive and makes no sense.

6) 1TB SSD with no HDD? That's a very poor use of money

7) Judging by the memory you wanted (which as I mentioned is dumb), if this is for workstation/productivity, I recommend changing platforms and going i7-5820k on x99

Finally, when it comes to motherboards, it's really simple: buy the cheapest one with the featureset you need from a brand that doesn't make faulty boards. In your case, this would be the cheapest z170 motherboard that has 4 DDR4 slots, and that's it. Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, and ASrock are all acceptable brands.

edit: just realized you selected DDR3 (240 pin). This is beyond stupid and changes motherboard selection and practically no one makes a z170 DDR3 motherboard. Switch to DDR4.

And to everyone suggesting grey market: please stop. It's not right. At that point you might as well pirate it because you're breaking Microsoft terms already.

This was a baseline list of things that I want. this is not fixated on the final rig, though it will benefit by people giving me tips. 1tb was a bit overkill, I agree, though storage is always nice. I currently rock a 190gb HDD on my daily driver, with 10gigs dedicated to backups. the gpu was picked for gaming and encoding video files, the cpu for gaming and other things. I have a GTX 550 Ti from PNY in my current rig, it just seems lacking. My cpu is what is kinda dissapointing, as a Intel Core Quad Duo from 2004 is in it. 2.44ghz clocked.

I was going to go with either a Krait edition board from MSI, or a similar board. I didn't follow my gut, so I turned to the community to help me get an idea on what mobo to use.

I plan to use this on Next Gen gaming, Content creation, Video encoding, processing, and uploading.
