My friend recently built a new rig with an Asus Z170-A motherboard, 980ti and 6700k. However the motherboard back panel doesn't seem to be outputting anything. No HDMI signal (GPU too), no USB power (keyboard won't light up). All the component lights up however so I really don't know what's wrong. The motherboard doesn't seem to have a speaker included or an error code display.

Anybody got any ideas?

Things we've tried:

Clearing CMOS, only using 1 stick of ram, different power source and trying both the motherboard and graphics card HDMI output.

try only booting with cpu, 1 stick of ram and the necessary connections (24pin and 8 pin) from the psu

and connect only your monitor, no other peripherals

short the power button pins to turn on, wait around 2 minutes and see if it posts

if it doesnt, its either bad cpu, ram, motherboard or psu

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Yeah, tried all that. The problem is my friend has no extra parts to try which one is broken. Pretty sure it is motherboard tho? It lights up but doesn't output USB power. A bad CPU wouldn't do that right?

EDIT: I watched one of Linus' old 50 minute build guides and it looks like he got the cables right.

it depends, might be the psu too, might be the motherboard

its best if you can just bring it into a shop and have them check it if you dont have spare parts

or just buy the parts lol

That's an expensive way to figure out the problem. I'll probably just ask him to refund a new board.
