I got a custom PC built by a company (PC Specialist in the UK) and it mostly seems to be good however, there is a WHINING that is so annoying. It doesn't sound electrical like a buzz, it's more of a whine and I'm pretty sure it's coming from the H80i fan.

Is there any way of turning off/on each fan to test this?

It doesn't sound too bad in the video but for some reason I'm REALLY sensitive to it and it's starting to give me a headache when I go on my computer:

It turned out to be the bottom chassis fan which I've now unplugged.

New problem:

I think the company connected both fans together and then it goes to the mobo into chassis fan 1 and left a bit of a mess with the all cables. There's like a bundle on cables near the PSU.

I nudged the bundle of cables when I was troubleshooting, the noise stopped and the BOTTOM fan also stopped even though it was still plugged in. I don't know if it's the cable from the bottom fan to the bundle or another wire in the bundle, it's very confusing.  The top fan is still going and there is a small noise but that just seems like a normal noise, nothing like before.

NOTE: I noticed that I did not have control of the bottom fan. Whenever I changed the "chassis fan" settings, only the top one changed. Could it be the bottom fan was at 100% constantly and this was the noise?

I'm not sure if I should replace the bottom fan or what?

Think it could be coil wine?

From the motherboard or PSU? I'm new at all this :(

Will it still post with the CPU fan not plugged in?

start pc and then start to unplug the and plug them back in and listen to the sound difference. You are good if you dont start touching everything

Ugh I hope not, sending it back to them would be SO annoying. I'm pretty sure that it's the fan or something in that area. My hearing isn't very good so I haven't been able to pin point it exactly.

It's probably the pump.

Do you have Corsair Link installed? If you do, see if it's Quiet or Performance mode. Corsair Link will also let you change the speed of the fans separate from the pump.

Also, some buzz is normal from the pump. If it is indeed way louder than what you can bear, you can always contact Corsair directly for a RMA.

I already have it installed and I've been changing from Quiet to Performance the noise doesn't change at all. It's just a constant whine/drone from start up to shut down.

I've added a video into the OP of the noise, is it the pump noise?. You can hear the whine/drone in the background with the wind noise.

That actually sounds about normal.

I found that it was actually the bottom fan. I was having a look inside and "bumped" a cable and the sound stopped! I looked and the bottom chassis fan had stopped? So I unplugged it and now the sound is gone!

But now I have more problems... 1) Is it a fault cable?? 2) Is it a faulty fan??

I also noticed before that I couldn't change the speed of the bottom fan, only chassis fan 1 was shown in AI Suite (I assumed they were connected together as there is nothing plugged into chassis fan 2 on the mobo but the bottom fan is still going?) and only the top fan changed?

Is it possible the bottom fan was at 100% and this was causing the noise?

Sounds like the fan cable might have been fitting the fan or a bad electrical connection making it not able to be controlled.

Hmm that's a bit odd, not too sure about that but if things are working well I guess all back to normal :D

Yeah everything seems fine now but I only have 1 front intake fan which should be fine shouldn't it? Most PCs only have 1 intake fan on the front plus I have an Air 540 so I don't have any hard drive bays in the way.

For intakes usually it's best to have more intake volume than exhaust as it promotes positive pressure and tends to help prevent dust if your have filtered intakes. It's not absolutely necessary but in general helps.

Hmm okay I'll have a look at replacing the fan. Thanks for the help!

Also another part: Both fans were connected to Chassis Fan 1 on my motherboard (somehow) and I could only control the top one, the bottom (the problem) didn't change at all. What does this imply?

I really over complicate things sorry :(

Are they connected via a splitter and 4pin PWM based fans?

If it is then it might be the PWM control line not making a proper connection or sending a signal to the second fan.

I haven't a clue sorry, it's just the stock Corsair Air 540 case fans. There's like a bundle of cables near the PSU. It's when I knocked the the cables that the noise stopped and the bottom fan came to a stop.

Sounds like that bottom fan may just be directly power by the PSU and not actually controllable.
