Question about certain games cpu requirements

Go to solution Solved by Guuhan,

Yeah, since most of the games run just fine on any quad cores. Compared that to i7, you rarely use the other 4 threads anyway. Basically where the i7 starts to shine is when you do professional work (video editing, development etc.) Overclocking i5 probably will do just fine for games, i7 might be a tiny tiny bit faster, but you won't notice anything really.

So i think everyone has heard that a overclocked i5 will perform the same as a overclocked i7, is that still true for these newer games?

Ex: Fallout 4's cpu recommended requirement is a i7 4790, The Division a i7 3770, Farcry Primal a i7 2600k.

Would a i5 6600k overclocked perform the same? Since the i7's have hyperthreading.

Thanks

^ What he said...

The i7 is for professional work, the i5 is for gaming...  There is really no need to get an i7 for gaming:

Look at the various results of the i5-6600k vs i7-6700k.  More or less zero difference.
