Alright, so I'm rocking a fresh install of Windows 8.1, and there is no weird software installed that is malicious or anything like that.

Anyways, I was typing something and some random dialog box came up, and I hit space since I thought I was still typing, so I can only assume I hit the yes option.  Now what I don't understand is that since then, every 5-10 seconds, my cursor turns to the working in background cursor and then goes back to normal. It doesn't seem that it corresponds to disk activity, or CPU activity. I don't see any weird process running either.

What could I possibly have done?

It could be a bad firmware unless there is some sort of option for this within your mouse setting.

Wouldn't be firmware since A. Things that want updates aren't supposed to tell me. B. I don't really think bad firmware on anything would cause this.

Hmm...good point, has it always done done this or just recently started doing this?

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

Just recently. Like I said, random dialog box came up when I was typing something, and I didn't notice so I just hit yes.

And it wasn't anything malicious, because I didn't have Chrome open, and the only place I install shady stuff is in a completely isolated VM.

And I've restarted a few times but that hasn't done anything.

That is a strange thing. It doesn't make any sense unless its actually killing processes in the background and restarting them all the time, but even then it would become completely unresponsive, this is a weird problem have you tried reinstalling the drivers themselves?

All my drivers seem okay.

BUT, I left my house for a bit, and when I came back there was a dialog that said CPUDump.exe was unable to start correctly. I feel like this might be the thing that was doing it.

Apparently this is something to do with one of the utilities my motherboard has. Not sure which one.
