Hi guys,

What are possible and reasonable things to do with a gpu such as mine?

I'm not sure whether I should upgrade or not.

It works well enough for now, but there are some cons.

It's noisy

it's hot

it's old (Not good driver support anymore. Some games work with newer drivers, older games work with older drivers...)

uses a lot of power (power bill)

Only new popular games support Crossfire, without it, it's not a very fast card.

-But it is nonetheless a beast of a card. Still performing very well even though it is 5 years old.

What could be the reasons for keeping it, and what could be the reasons for getting rid of it? Help me think a little.

-What should I do with it? sell? throw away? use for something else -what?

You could always run Folding@Home on another system, however you might need some solar panels to offset the cost of running it 24/7. If that doesn't work, then sell it on Reddit or something and buy a  better GPU

BOINC Setup:
i5 7200U @ Stock

Core2Duo T6600 @ Stock

i3 2330M @ Stock

i5 3210M @ Stock

I have no idea to be honest. If I just had one lying around I would personally use it for Folding.

lol im not rich either bud, just thinking, price/performance wise, I'm not getting nearly enough for my wattage xD, dual-gpu in HTPC is kind of overkill or not useful? xD watching movies only uses one gpu right?

Sell it or keep it as a spare. There is a lot people who are on tight budget and look for working, cheap but still relevant gpus for everyday basic gaming.

HD 6990 would work for anyone who is upgrading from a cards like GT 210/640 or HD 3000/4000 series

And I have no idea what the weather is like in denmark, so maybe a windmill or something would help lol. (That's not really a serious idea, but you get the point)

Depending on the cost, I may desire to give it a purchase. PMing me is fine if you wish to use me as a potential buyer. Otherwise, do not spam people with the offer, and only post the offer in Classifieds if it's a general offer.

Hahah yeah... I live in an appartment with my gf, not much room for a windmill xD

Besides if I had a wind mill and didn't worry about electricity, i'd use this card for gaming. 0$/performance is VERY good

naw, just that windmols are pretty primitive and bulky for the power they produce.

Probably not worth the cost for either of us.

Could just set fan settings on 100% on radeon, and see a storm outside.. it's beasty.

The card's fans would cause a storm outside? Wouldn't you feel it inside first?
