Phone batery wont charge

I was doing a project and used my phone battery as a power source and accidently short circuited it and it wont recharge any advice  or do I need a new battery

What kind of phone is it? Have you tried plugging it in to the charger without the battery and seeing if it turns on or anything?

Try power cycling by plugging it into a charger and unplug it to see if it reset or is able to revert back to normal it sounds like it tripped the short circuit protection.
