Hey fellow photographers. This summer I am going backpack with some friends in the Sierras for 5 days. I already have a very nice backpacking pack, I was wondering how you guys stored your camera in those backpacks. Like what kind of case to go into your main backpack. Any thing that can carry my d7100 and tokina 11-16 lens and be padded so if It is bumped, droped, etc that my camera wont get damaged. Also any suggestion if you think theres a better option to store my camera on a long backpacking trip. Also lighter = Better .

Thanks

Well don't drop it then, taking care of your gear is essential.  That aside, you can always wrap it heavily in some T-shirts, a friend of my does that when he goes hiking up in the Alps.  In his backpack.

You can also get something like a TTP Digital Holster, they come in about five different sizes and are designed to fit one camera + one lens.

Didn't think of something that simple. I guess that would work until I need the shirts and then my camera would smell of sweat from dirty clothes. :)

Well you can check the link I posted, refresh the page to see my edits.

Alternatively you can get a waist bag like this, not sure if it will fit your camera and lens.

One of my favorite bags is Mindshift Gear's Rotation 180.  Mindshift Gear makes bags in different sizes:

But what I like about the bag is if I am traveling very light, my camera goes into the bottom rotating waist bag and my clothes and other stuff go into the top compartment.

Ah, well I would probably store the camera gear in the top of that one since it seems quite large and is the most protected from hits.

(I myself use a Lundahgs 75Liters or a fjällräven 65 (this one is amazing) liter backpack)
