I'll be going with the i3 then.

That ASUS board doesn't appear to have USB 3.1, USB 3.1 is the main reason to go for skylake, and that gigabyte board is about the best budget board for the platform

getting a single 8gb stick makes upgrading to 16gbs easier down the line

Hi, I'm planing to upgrade my PC. It's mostly used for strategy gaming, old titles and common work.

My current build consists of:

  • Case: Nox Coolbay DX Side Window
  • MOBO: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5KPL-SE (Socket 775)
  • CPU: Intel Pentium E5400 @ 2.70GH
  • RAM: 4,00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 336MH
  • GPU: ASUS AMD Radeon 7770 1 GB
  • Storage: 298GB Seagate ST9320325AS ATA Device SATA
  • PSU: Delta DPS-460DB A

I was planning upgrade using these parts:

  • Case: Fractal Design Core 1000
  • MOBO: ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 Socket AM3+
  • CPU: AMD FX 6300
  • RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR3 8GB
  • GPU: (keeping the same) ASUS AMD Radeon 7770 1 GB
  • Storage: Kingston SSD 240GB V300 and keeping the old HDD
  • PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX 80+ Bronze 500W

I'll be using a 1440x900 monitor, but I'm planning to upgrade to a 1080p in the future.

Should I change something? Is there any component that I should get instead of any of these?

Thanks,

Better off getting a skylake i3 based PC over a 6300, or just wait for AM4 which should be out soon anyways

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

The problem is that I didn't want to exceed a 400€ budget. Is the difference that great?

It gives you a platform with an upgrade path and it'll be faster in some games, but especially for emulation

or you can get an 8320E for around the same price if you do any recording/streaming/editing, but again, AMD has poor per core performance which is what really holds back their CPUs, if you were to stick with AM3+ get the 8 core so you don't have to worry about not having the best chip for the socket

and there's a pretty solid budget AM3+ board, ASrock 970M at 59

i3 6100 119

The budget 1151 for the i3 at 71, comes with USB 3.1 and Type C

I'll be going with the i3 then.

Going with the ASUS H110M-C and Kingston DDR4 HyperX 8GB 2133MHz.

Is there any benefit from 1 RAM stick vs 2 RAM sticks?

Thanks
