I'm pretty sure TFT is just another name for LCD.

From what I've read a while back it's a variation of LCD but nothing to do with panel types.

It is a type of LCD and doesn't compare to what panel it uses. it's like trying to compare mhz of a gpu and Vram

TFT is an old term from back when there were other types, and we needed to specify it was TFT.  We don't use the term now because it's implied.

TN, IPS, PLS, VA... everything is TFT LCD.

Seriously guys, if you don't know, don't answer the question with whatever your best guess is... lol.  Or if you do, make sure you say so...

LCD is a type of display on a broad term, if you will.

Your watch screen, alarm clock, dumb phone, wireless phone, calculators, and so on, are all LCD displays.

TFT (thin film transistors) is a type of LCD display that we use on tablets, smartphones, laptops, desktops, and so on.

Under TFT type of displays, this is where you have: IPS, TN, MVA, PVA, AFFS (TV's) and ASV (TV's).

Where under wich you have sub panel types:

IPS: H-IPS, E-IPS, eIPS, PLS, AH-IPS, P-IPS, Super IPS, IPS-Pro.... and maybe a 1-2 which I forgot.

MVA: S-MVA, A-MVA, and simply MVA.

PVA: PVA, cPVA, S-PVA

TN:... TN.
