i just got this MSI GE62 Apache with a 5th gen 5700hq and a 960m, but i'm having issues launching some games. they launch in either only Intel graphics which aren't good, or they just don't boot at all. i think this is because there's an issue with the nvidia optimus that it uses to conserve power. that is normally not a problem. i've had an alienware m18x and newer 14, which could both completely disable the intel graphics and run only on the dedicated card. but i don't see any way to do that on this msi laptop. not even in the bios. if there's a way to get around this then please let me know, as i would love to get back into laptop gaming after being away from it for a couple years.

Set from Nvidia Control Panel. Even my Clevo P650SG does this, has a 980M, but can't use it to its maximum potential.

even that doesn't work. i tell it to use the high performance nvidia processor, but it still would not boot the game properly.

What do you mean by the game won't boot properly? It crashes to desktop straight after launch?

in Beamng.Drive, it boots up to a black screen. i can't get out of it. the only way to close it is to ctrl+alt+delete and get to task manager to force close it. and Sonic Generations keeps saying i need to run the configuration tool because the hardware doesn't match or something. Bioshock Infinite starts ok for like a second, then goes to black screen as well. GTA V starts then immedietely goes to not responding and crashes. all of these games ran perfectly fine on my alienware 14 when i disabled the intel graphics. so if there's  a way to do that on the MSI, then please let me know.

not all games are like this. all the Borderlands games run perfectly fine on it.

i am going to update the driver to make sure that that's not the issue. but i'm on v.362.00, so i thought that would be good enough?

In the Nvidia Control Panel, did you set individually for each program or did you just set it to dGPU in the general settings?

yes i did. i set to be the global default as well. just updated both geforce experience and the driver. still the same thing. bioshock series launches fine for a split second then goes to blackscreen. gta5 just crashes immediately even in safemode.

i set up the laptop to have both windows 7 and windows 10. all these issues are in windows 7. when i swapped over to 10 i had no problems. all the games ran and launched fine. i have no idea why windows 7 is being a pain.
