Need help with a laptop

My dad is looking for a new laptop to buy. He's not into building a desktop, and he thinks laptops are just more convenient than any desktop. It seems like his budget is anywhere under $600, but he would prefer to have something closer to $500. He doesn't play games that much, but my brother may use it to play League of Legends or Minecraft, as well as run Teamspeak, Discord and/or Skype. It would be best for it to have both a microphone and a headphone jack, but it is not required. The screen resolution really doesn't matter either.

I'm really not any good when it comes to laptops because I haven't done much in the way of research with them, so help would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of content is he looking to store? Probably look at getting one that has a SSHD or an SSD if he just wants the basics. That will make his laptop seem faster, and his games and apps will start faster, and if he goes pure SSD, he doesn't have to perform defragging.

I don't think that matters much either. He doesn't use it too often.
