What will you use it for?

Anything heavy duty?

i will be running a dual processor build with two of these on 1 mobo for freenas

I checked the cpu compatability for the server the heatsink originates from, and the Xeon 5200 series is compatable, so from what i can tell, yes it will work.

nothing will overheat correct? even with it being passive?

If you make sure you have a good airflow throughout your case, you should be fine

it will overheat.... this is for a 1u case meaning that it would have lake huge fans just infront of it blasting air through.... its not passive, its made for channeled air and so it will overheat in a standard case. get something with a fan on it

If you can get the fan to blow air directly at the heatsinks it should be ok.

Mounting fans in the side of your case such that they blow on the heatsinks would be ideal in this case

 

If you have a choice though, go with active cooling.
