Hello,

 planned to buy ASUS X550JX

Spec:

4720HQ

GTX 950 2GB

4GB ram

can i upgrade the ram up to 12GB by adding this ram : Corsair SO-DIMM DDR3 4GB PC12800 - CMSO4GX3M1C1600C11 (1X4GB) (DDR3L)

can X550JX support this ram?

i've heard X550JX 4GB ram is soldered so i cant take it out, but they say there is 1 more availble slots.

thanks!

a GeForce GTX series 970 user.

Assuming you've just made a typo, afaik it that model is 8gb only.

To answer your question, No it can't be upgraded to 12gb as it only supports a max of 8gb suggesting that the ram is soldered.

Sure you could put more than 4gb in that expansion slot but it won't work very well if at all.

Read that post and what people have said. The problem is that ram works extremely well when it's in pairs or dual pairs (quad) but you start to have lots and lots of problems when you mix modules.

If you need more ram I would suggest looking for ways to reduce current ram usage or buy a new laptop.

Of course you can test your luck and get an 8 stick to put in but don't say I didn't warn ya.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
