I'm stuck between a 2013 Sandisk X110 128gb (SD6SB1M-128G-1022i) vs a 2015 SanDisk 120gb SSD Plus (SDSSDA-120G-Q25).

Which one should I get? Newer or older? It's for my laptop so I don't want to spend so much and these fit the bill.

250gb should be your ideal size of either in all honesty.

I'm planning to use my 1TB HDD in a external enclosure. I use the laptop for uni and mainly store files through dropbox. Any heavy workloads I use my main rig at home.

I have a Macbook Pro that's getting used for Uni, It's getting RAM and an SSD soon, I implore you to get a 250, dropbox will take up space etc and using an external HDD is piss slow, You'd be better setting up a NAS.

Why would you get a outdated product?

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Even if they're heavily discounted and the newer stuff will run at the same speed as the outdated stuff? Like my getting a 950 m.2 drive for my z97 board then complaining it's not running at the right speed... Genius.

sata 2 have a theoretical transfer speed of 250-ish MBps?

99% of the SSDs will be bottlenecked by that transfer speed then...

and that ssd will probably cost more than what your laptop is worth XDD

Mine's been fine, so has my mate's X110 we put in his rig. Then again this is LTT we all need 850's or 950s with titan x's and xeon or x99 platform rigs.

The OP has been answered, get what ever is within your price range, My advice is a 250gb but it's what the fuck ever.

If you feel 120/128GB will suit your needs, then there is little need to purchase more. My laptop ran a 64GB SSD, and half of it was unused. Required capacity is always dependent on the use scenario. That said, the price difference between 64GB and 128GB was minor, and if I hadn't been strapped for cash at the time I would've gone for the bigger drive just in case I want to repurpose the drive elsewhere at some point. (I did repurpose the drive eventually, into my MacBook. Where again, half the drive remains unused.)

None of that addresses the OP's question, though. Choosing between an old and a new SSD, I would always prefer the new one (it's relatively new tech after all, and SSDs have been improved a lot the last few years), especially if the old one is a used model. If the performance and price are similar, warranty is generally a good reason to go for new...
