Stardock's Multi GPU solution. Will it work??

What do you guys think about this article? It seems to me that it sounds too good to be true. In considering that AMD and Nvidia have SLI and Crossfire but we can't expect a true doubling of graphical power when we connect two 970's or two r9 390's, how is this (I'd call it an adapter for now) going to be a "game changer" as the article supposes. I'd like to know your opinions on this. :)
