Hey Fawful Rox,

The best way would be to check the drive's condition by running a diagnostic tool from the manufacturer and then confirm these results with a third-party tool that can give you the raw values of the S.M.A.R.T. status. If you are not sure how to read them feel free to post them here. :)

What's the drive's brand and model?

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^

In that case I'd recommend using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests. :)

Again, checking the raw values of the S.M.A.R.T. status is also a good idea and yo can feel free to post them here (without the serial number of the drive) if you are not sure how to read them. :)
