Hard Drive Question.

I have an old 500gb hard drive from an old laptop that I used for about 5 years. Is it worth the risk to use it again?

Personally id use it just for a second dirve. Sometimes after a long while, drives can become less stable and even slow down. Id grab a cheap 1tb from microcenter (around 35 bucks) and use that one as a main drive.

In that case I'd recommend using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests.

 

Again, checking the raw values of the S.M.A.R.T. status is also a good idea and yo can feel free to post them here (without the serial number of the drive) if you are not sure how to read them.
