The 980ti is completely pointless on that 1080p 60hz screen you included, so I can only imagine the reason you included it was for hardware acceleration of encoding. In which case, AMD completely trounces it in modern editing suites. The R9 Fury is still overkill, but not nearly as badly. I know you have some arbitrary aversion to AMD, but that makes no sense here and they supply the obviously superior product for the given price point given your usage case. I also went with Haswell-E for its multi-threaded performance. You can afford such a thing in this build. Given your non-gaming load, it's worth it.

One item to consider spending more on is the monitor. It might be the best course of action to get a 1080p 144hz IPS panel, or a 1440p or 4k 60HZ IPS panel, depending on if you prefer the framerate for gaming or the resolution for workstation tasks. You've still got room left in the budget, and hell as I said the GPU is still overkill. You can drop down comfortably to a $400 R9 390X and still max games out at 1080p and provide a great hardware acceleration boost in rendering that's still better than the GTX 980.

edit: oh, and if you were going with NVidia for streaming purposes, then you're definitely barking up the wrong horse (rofl). The 6 core haswell CPU is much better suited for that kind of transcoding, and will result in better quality per bitrate than NVidia's included .h264 encoder in their GPUs. Even if you had an NVidia GPU with the 5820k, I'd still recommend CPU encoding for that quality reason. It's the same reason why if you have the CPU horsepower, I wouldn't recommend quicksync, which uses the iGPU of consumer intel CPUs for h.264 encoding.

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($109.99 @ B&H)

i would recomend getting a nh-d15 or bequiet dark rock pro 3 rather than a single 120mm rad, but that case just doesnt fit either of these so i went with the h100i...

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

really nice i like it,

1 complaint doe

HyperX cloud

I have one but

It broke easily for me

(actually wasnt me my family abused the crap out of it)

and i wouldve liked a better source of audio even though

that cloud headset is perfect too.

I guess your right though, i'll take it into consideration.

The onboard audio on that motherboard is quite excellent, and better than many dedicated sound cards. Unless you need perfection and are pairing it with $500 headphones, I wouldn't bother with an external DAC/AMP combo, which is what it would take to do better.

As for the headphones, I simply went with clouds because they included a decent microphone, had decent sound, and weren't too pricey. You could have gone with more expensive headphones and then something like a Blue Yeti for the microphone, but that would drastically increase the price of the build.

dont worry about mic,

I'll buy it excluding the budget anyhow. (rode nt-usb)

I said the headset is great, just not family-abuse-proof

neither any headset for that matter.

nonetheless i am very stupid.
