ubuntu server installing mysql

So I'm using mysql for my minecraft servers and I have a local ubuntu server machine and I was wondering if I install mysql will it run in the background?

I think I'm just going to use my web hosting mysql just to make easier.

If you always have problem with linux + mysql and others dont, maybe it's not because of linux + mysql.
