Driver update crashed my system.

I was playing a video game like I do everyday when that little Nvidia notification slides in from the side and says there is an update. I clicked on it and let it do its thing after chitting the express installation button. Monitors flickered and did its usual stuff before finishing up. It flicked a few more times and never came back to the desktop.

BSOD popped up and my system restarted. It just kept cycling from the Mobo screen to the Windows logo with the little loading circle until it stops, flickers and then ends with a BS. It showed a pixelated image once then BS'd on me, kinda like a colorful Missing No. from Pokemon.

I removed my GPU and I am trying to remove all Nvidia software but it will not let me. Just need some help as I have never encountered an error like this.

Here is the full error message: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys)

Operating on Windows 10 Pro

Edit: Driver was updated about 45min before this post.

I am a bit relieved that I am not the only one experiencing this but feel bad for the others that it has happened to.

I cannot use my GPU at all. It is just sitting on top of a skittles box in front of me.

Mine is producing video, but it's unreadable. I'm relieved that I didn't brick my GTX 980...

I have an idea. I'm gonna try booting into windows with an AMD graphics card, uninstalling the nvidia display drivers and reinstalling the old ones.

Please update what you find. I don't have an alternate GPU to test it.

Any tips on how to remove the current drivers using the Mobo graphics or do I really need to have an alternate GPU?

Why didn't you just use DDU instead?

Now I'm gonna pop in my old graphics card and it seems to work okay, but it's too early to say...

Ok so i fixed it.

Boot in safe mode(hold shift) and update the driver from your device manager menu. You can also try uninstalling it and downloading an older working driver from nvidia. Cheers
