Do you think 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz 240pin ram will still work with

1x8GB DDR3 2400MHz 240pin?

I am planning to purchase the 8GB - but just wondering if I will need 2. Is it worth the extra $110?

It might not work because these sticks of ram might be incompatible with each other.

they should work together however you will be limited to 1600MHz .

So your fancy 2400MHz Ram will run at 1600MHz.

Your memory will always run at the lowest speed of any particular dimm. in this case 1600MHz.

Are you running intel or amd?

amd benefits from faster memory in most cases particularly when using integrated graphics

on the intel side i really dont think your going get huge memory improvents with 2400Mhz... marginal at best.

Try to roll with whats affordable for you. keep all modules 8GB.
