Bottleneck Confusion

Im planning on upgrading my computer 5+ y/o computer, but due to budget constraints have to buy a bit at a time. I was planning on buying the gpu first (prob a 960) and use it in my old system until I can get everything else. But my friend informed me of possible bottlenecks. But yet I see people combining the g3258 and don't mention a thing about bottlenecks. Is the g3258 a bottlenecker for a 960? Im only considering it to first get me out of the lga 775 club and into 1150. Any information/suggestions would be a great help as I am still green when it comes to building/understanding computers.

 

(Current computer: Q9300, Dell mb, 4gb, & GTX 480)

(Possible temporary upgrade: G3258(later a 4460?), z97 mb, 8gb, & GTX 960)
