I own a decent GPU (AMD R9 380x 4GB) and a not so decent CPU (Intel Core I5 750 ".67 Ghz), everytime i try to play games on a high performance and quality, on games like Gta 5, I cannot get over the 60 fps, usually i get 30-35 fps. To improve the performance of my GPU I Over Clock it, and i get and average of 45-60 fps, but after 30 minutes of playtime, my usually crash. I know OC can make games crash more often, specially when my cpu, as I said, is not a very good one. Now my question is if this constant crashes are ruining my GPU, pls help

shouldnt hurt it that much but i would take the overclock off and see if it crashes then

Crashing is systems auto-prevention method. It won't harm anything. But you should lower OC on both or one to see which one is causing it. CPU isn't necessarily bad, its just old. Mobo would be one that controls more about stable OC.

What is your overclock? stock clock is 970mhz anandtech got theirs to 1050mhz

and this is the performance profile on GTA V with that card

okay some cards are set slightly higher, what are you overclocking it to?

~OC shouldn't make a game crash more often unless you are going too high, if a game crashes lower the overclock 10mhz and continue, there should be an overclock that is totally stable

~Your weak CPU should not make your GPU overclock less stable, though it will slow down GTA in some of the busier areas

~These crashes will not damage your GPU, the only thing to worry about are Temps and voltage, if you aren't increasing voltage just make sure you are below around 80c and you really shouldn't see any shorter longevity.

If I bought a new CPU, do you think i could get higher frame rate?, i have seen lots of benchmarks in ultra settings with this GPU, using a CPU I5 4460

Well you would see a performance improvement. but the issue that lies behind is that there really isn't a modern CPU out today that doesn't struggle with GTA in certain choke points. these tests don't include your i5 but considering its a gen older than the 2500k i'd use that number and knock it down about 10%, you're still faster than most AMD systems outside the 9590.

The best way to test this is to turn on the On Screen Display to show GPU load in game and take note of what percent its at, you want 100% load on GPU and if its dropping into the 80-70% range it means your CPU is slowing the system down, but even my 3570k at 4.4ghz isn't enough for GTA V
