New pc only posts without gpu

I've just built my pc and it only posts when I take out the graphics card.

mobo ASROCK killer z97

cpu i5-4690k

gpu msi gtx 970

What power supply?

Your power supply will be sufficient if you have more than 400-450 Watts, but it's better to have more like 600 for overclocking headroom.

Are you plugging in the 6 or 8 pin power connectors to the card?

I've plugged a 8 pin into the first slot then 6 pin into the second

Did you re-seat the cables or anything else?

Nope just turned it off, on then it worked really weird and I was getting so worried

1. push really hard when you install it , not excessive but give it some muscle.

2. if it still wont post its probably a dead GPU .

3. does the rest of the system seem to run even when it wont post, depending on your PSU there might not be enough power so the power supply will "shut off"
