Ram memory decision

I am running 

4790K 
z97 Asrock aniversiry

Evo 212

Corsair Vengance 2x4 1600MHZ DDR3

Gtx960

700W B2 Evga

 

 

I mainly play games, but I was looking to get more RAM.

Would it better to get 16 extra gigs of some 1600mhz ram

 

or like 8 more gigs of 2400mhz or more mhz

 

Please let me know

The sweet spot in RAM is 8GB or 16GB should really be the most RAM you should have if you are only gaming. I have 32GB as I do a lot of video editing. You probably won't use the full 16GB of RAM when you're gaming. So if you really want to upgrade I would recommend buying 2x4 8GB of the kind of RAM you currently have. Hope this somewhat helps.

Don't bother, you wont see any difference in games.

 

Save up your money, sell your GTX 960 and get a GTX 980Ti.

 

That will give you a HUGE increase in performance.

You have a VERY powerful CPU! Put it to use with a monster GPU.

 

For now 8GB of RAM is fine for gaming.

People think they need so much RAM. And when they do buy it that's money gone down the toilet because that RAM is not even being used.

For most people anything more than 8GB is not needed.

For you it's very important though.

I work in making 3D models etc. and editing videos. So for example when I need to do a RAM preview in After Effects, it goes very smoothly. Even on 8GB it takes time as the applications I use are very RAM and CPU intensive.

Hey 16GB is so enough that you will not require. 8GB is quite fine. This is only for gaming. 2400Mhz does not have much performance over 1600Hz of RAM. Get Some Corsair Value Selects 1600Mhz and you will be fine.
