GPU Core Clock help!

Hi guys, I've been having an issue with my Graphics card (a Gigabyte R9 280X). 

Whenever I have chrome open and have a bit of tabs open, the GPU would be pegged to a clock speed of a 1000mHz, even while running a game. Now this can be remedy by going into Afterburner and applying its stock settings again or strangely enough, if I overclock it past the factory overclock of 1100mHz (which then makes the card run at that speed at all times which is another issue in itself)

I was wondering if it was a GPU or a Chrome related thing? Any helkp or information would be appreciated! thanks!

Unless the temperatures are exceeding 80C, the card will be fine.

no the temps are normal. It does hit 80 when I'm gaming, but without chrome open nit won;t down clock at all. so I was wondering whats up with that

It might be a driver issue.  Try reinstalling drivers.  As long as temps are normal, your card will be fine.  Is there anything in the background that might be putting load on the GPU?

I've reinstalled drivers multiple times before but this behaviour still persisted. 

 

only the game is really loading the card. in both cases it matters only if chrome is open that the discrepancy in its core clock is noticed.

What's the load% on the GPU while Chrome is open?  Does this happen anywhere else in Windows when Chrome is closed?

Chrome has a thing called "gpu hardware acceleration," if you turn that off it may help.

My cards have basically always done the same thing. It's normal.

 

In fact, I'd rather my card just run at max boost clock 24/7 the time...

no it down clocks it self (tho not all the way)  once I stop the game application. it does however peg my memory clock at max of 1500mHz

ahh...I'll try that out.  still wierd that it causes the GPU to be run at "stock"  speeds rather than the card defined one.

that wouldn't be a problem... if it was stable...  st trying to find out a stable OC for it but it couldn't even handle a 20mHz OC
