So my studio computer is starting to die (it's 6 years old, I would expect that) but I'm wondering if there would be a way to delay it's death, until next month when I get my life back on par, So here's the issue.

My graphics card was having some troubles after I plugged in my mulicard reader, but my computer would still boot off the onboard graphics so I took out the card reader, same issue, then I  fiddled around with it and got it working, but then my USB ports were having issue, not recognizing my mouse or keyboard or recognizing them and malfunctioning so I figured PCI slot USB, probably got something to do with the southbridge, I don't know how hot it is (no sensor) but I'd estimate that it's <60c. My wonder is if I put new thermal compound on it would that maybe do the trick, I'm thinking back to red ring xbox and how that would fix it, could my thermal paste just be done on it or should I be looking into a new board?

Why do you always die right after I fix you?

Do you mean >60c?

And I'd try applying new thermal paste. It's worth a try if you may have to get a new motherboard anyway.

I'm not all that clued up on motherboards, so I'm afraid I can't advise on whether the southbridge heat is causing your issues or not.

I think they are safe up to 105c, but i'm not certain.

What's the worse that could happen changing the paste though :)

imo reset the bios to factory defaults and see what happens, but don't just reset to factory defaults, remove the power, remove the Cmos battery for 10 minutes and then connect everything again and test it out. worth a shot.

alright I'll take it apart tonight and give it a go, I did mean >60c I'm only guessing by feel. I did clear the cmos trying to get it working, what ended up working was turning the power off on the powersupply and turning it back on again, I don't know how that fixed the gpu but it did, so then I had usb issues so I figured southbridge and I let the computer sit powered down and it's working alright now, but I am going to try new thermal paste just to be sure.

Why do you always die right after I fix you?
