What SATA controller

I need to cram more hard drives in my case but my motherboard only has 4 sata ports. I found sata controller cards but don't know anything about them. I only have 1 PCI Ex 8x slot and need a card with at least 2 sata ports. Do you guys have any recommendations for me? Is it maybe easier to just get a usb cable for the other disks or is that a horrible idea?
