Hello LTT,

I added two 980 Tis to my rig yesterday and so far I am unhappy with their performance in SLI. With SLI enabled marginal performance gains are achieved and sometimes even performance decrease(!)

At this point I'm very dissapointed / confused by the performance of the cards in SLI and I think it might be my CPU. Back when I first got it, it overclocked to 4.7 - 4.8. Now a few years later I struggled to keep 4.3 stable until I went down to 4.2 to run these benches.

I'm considering returning one of the 980 Tis and upgrading to skylake, it's about time anyways.

100% it is your cpu.

980ti SLI bottlenecks on a 4790k and a 6700k (relative to a similar clocked 5820k or 5960x) so that 2500k is getting #wrecked by SLI overhead.

You're getting fairly close to me. I doubt you're hitting a bottleneck. Also don't go by the clock speeds in Heaven, they are always too high. According to that I'm getting 1615mhz on my 980TIs.

Hmm... can you post links? Your graphics score seems a little low.

@Kryptyx

Mind posting what fps you're getting in BF4/GTA V? Ultra settings.

I don't have BF4. Haven't really played GTA V much but I do own it. I can test tonight when I get home. Also, I'm not sure if this is still the case but SLI can take a slight hit if running in borderless windowed. Make sure you run full screen.

Here is my most recent 3DMark Firestrike:

Here's my firestrike 1.1 run, I was running the 1440p one.

Make note of the low physics test score.

Hmm, I'm guessing I was wrong then. Maybe you are hitting a CPU bottleneck. What is your CPU usage during the test?

100% with firestrike using more than 95%.

Time to upgrade then. :)

I would go with skylake unless you want to save a little and go for devil's canyon.
