Hello everyone, today I am bringing you a somewhat, easy question to answer (for the networking people that is). I currently have AT&T. I don't have that many ISP options where I live currently. Which is Illinois, but my internet speeds are roughly: 20 up and 2 down. We have the At&t provided modem, which I think is why my parents are complaining about internet being slow and not getting a very good signal upstairs. My Fiancee and I are in the basement with both our gaming PCs that are Ethernet connected to the modem and etc. Would everyone get a better signal and internet performance if we got an aftermarket Router like the TP-Link Archer C7 V2? Would this help with overall internet speed, or would it really just help with the Wi-Fi problem. (Also we are moving soon and I am going to set up the Wi-Fi in a more suitable area that doesn't have that much interference.

TL;DR: Modem/Router (provided by AT&T) is sitting in the basement, not a strong singal upstairs. Do I get a AP or upgrade to a good Aftermarket router like the TP-Link Archer C7 V2 with good router positioning in the new house.

I think you mentioned 20 down and 2 up but nvm that.

A new modem should fix your speed issue but also get a router placed in a better spit for better connection

Also make sure your ISP doesn't force you to use their modem, mine does.(Charter)

I have an Anet A8 as my project printer and a i3 MK3 for when I want things to work.

I extrude my own filament and haven't saved a penny yet.

Yeah I have currently have around 20Mbps download and 2mbps upload yeah. Yeah I am going to position the Networking in our new house more efficiently. I just want to know what kind of internet gear I should use, and upgrade to provide the best internet and networking experience to my family and I.

Oh so a specific modem and router?

Also do your know what speeds you are paying for?

I believe we should be getting 24 for the download but not sure about the Upload. I can give you the specific modem and router when I get home. I am currently at school.

Ok so if you are paying for 24 down you are getting probably some of the best you will get w/o upping your plan as well as your router and modem. Since AT&T is a dsl internet provider you won't get your full of what your are paying for most times I pay for 60 down and 10 up bit I only get 50 down and 4-6 up

okay so I should only really just position the router to a place that everyone can get good internet and still provide the computers that need the Ethernet with that.

Correct that would be the best solution unless you are willing to pay more monthly for a better internet plan.
