Hi, I have recently disassembled my GTX 960 to clean it (don't ask me what was inside) and after removing the heatsink I found 2 strange connectors inside. Now, I wonder what are they for? Just curious. Maybe the PCB is the same as the G1 Gaming model (I own the 2 fan version)? They have LEDs.. So does that mean that I can light it up? ^^

Edit: R.I.P. 6 pin connector :< I killed him..

How in the world did you manage to break the 6pin connector?

My screwdriver slipped when I tried to unscrew that tiny little silver screw holding the PCB and the backplate together. What a miracle that PCB is still in perfect condition!

it could be an LED header, or a fan header, IDK man as long as the headers are not causing you any trouble, why care?

Because I could light it up! Yay! Stealth wire to an LED somewhere in the case showing whether the card is hot or not.

My imagination cannot render the scene where you slip your screwdriver and break of the corner of the 6-pin header.... xD

no worries. Mine also can't. I did it with an Rolson screwdriver, I don't know the name but this one. And you see that screw on the top-right? Next to the 6 pin. I pressed hard and it kinda closed and I don't know what happened next.. Damn, I planed to sell that card but now it's worth like 50% less.. Always use proper tools for the job. Did it with my grandfather's watchmaker's screwdriver and it was like 10 seconds of work. I hate myself.

Ah, I see. Well, next time just use a good old regular screwdriver

And if the card still works, I'm sure buyers on ebay wouldn't mind a little less plastic :P

But It's damaged :< Hope that they will get that you can't see it if it's in your rig and maybe they will like thermal paste replacement ^^ btw this card has no thermal pads anywhere. Even the PCB and memory on top are just metal to chip with no pads..

That's probably because the cooler only has a copper contact plate for the gpu.

It is normal, many cards have that since the rest of the components on the pcb tend to not get as hot as the GPU.

Plus, the cooler is still providing cooling to the rest of the components by blowing fresh air.

Yeah. I wonder if G1 Gaming version has something to dissipate the heat better other than more heatpipes and optimized fin design. Because hey, it's just meant to be overclocked and for example RAM is on the second side. And overclocked it's hot. But whatever, safe temps are everything below burning point :P I keep my card in 90ish range just because it's quiet below 35% fan speed.

I'm not sure that wiring an LED to the headers would necessarily allow you to illuminate the card. There may be something built into the card where it doesn't support the functionality.

Yeah, that overclock is just too important for me ;) Or I could build a watercooling loop! But it's expensiv :< But maybe, just maybe there will be a man that will swap his reference design for my card and then only waterblock, two rads, couple fans, pump and tubes and it will be awwsome!
