Hai all,

I want to upgrade my pc using i5 2500k and utilize the overclock power.

But since I'm never overclock my system before, I have a few questions regarding the hardware choice.

1. Can I use any motherboard for over clocking?

2. Can I use a air cooling?

3. Is is stable for everyday use and gaming?

Thank you

1. Z-series motherboards are for overclocking
2. Yes, I use my air cooler to OC, make sure it's a large cooler

3. that depends on your overclock, generally I set the voltage to the highest that is safe for a chip and then go as high cpu speed as possible and then start lowering voltage, but you can do it the other way for a smaller oc with less voltage.

the sandybridge cpus oc well

Silverstone FT-05: 8 Broadwell Xeon (6900k soon), Asus X99 A, Asus GTX 1070, 1tb Samsung 850 pro, NH-D15

Resist!

1) You need a p67, z68 vor z77 board. Other boards won't overclock.

2) of course. Just get something decently powerful especially when overclocking.

3) work your way slowly up to a stable oc. First stock speeds with a fixed voltage. Then raise multiplier till unstable, raise voltage till stable, rais multi till unstable..... Etc. But really you should read an oc guide on sandy bridge. Raise LLC a bit and maybe PLL.
