When I am on my PC I like to have a youtube video going while playing on a online game and skype calling people. My internet is fine at daytime (26mb/s download and 5mb/s upload) but past 8PM my skype call starts lagging, my youtube video starts buffering and I lag a little on my game. And when someone else try's to play a youtube video in my house it's almost impossible to even load a webpage. I tested my speed past 8PM and I now get just 12mb/s (Sometimes drops to 8mb/s!) and upload drops to just under 2mb/s! Is this BT or is it my internet connection? also is there any way to fix it?

Thanks.

It is most likely BT throttling your speed, because its very traffic heavy period of the Day.

Afaik, there's not much you can really do, besides paying for a faster internet, so that your connection is prioritised over other's.

But, others, feel free to prove me wrong :)

But shouldn't I already be prioritised because I use so much data?

If only that were the case. BT are only fussed about how much you're paying them, and they allocate the bandwidth based on that. You could try calling them, but tbh you probably won't get very far with it.

as C_Mike said, BT (or really any ISP) only cares about your money.

although even 8mb/s should be enough for you useage. Something you could try is to use a ligher weight VOIP program other than skype. Teamspeak comes to mind.

First thing i'd do though is call BT and complain. If you have other ISPs in your area, look at their offerings. About a year ago, my dad complained to our ISP and threatened to switch to a different one. They gave us an extra 15mb/s for free lol

most household contracts do not offer guaranteed speeds, they say "up to"

the guaranteed speed contracts are specific for businesses and can, and will, cost a lot more
