dac question

Well, kind of.
Another option would be a sound card with monitoring and a dac.
So you would plug one devices output to the dac, dac to the sound card's inputs. Another device with USB - to soundcard. In some cards you can mix digital (USB) and the analog (inputs) to the output.

is there any dacs that would allow you to have multiple audio sources play at once. this is probably a stupid questions since most have a switch to change which input they output

You're looking for a mixer, not a dac.

Well a dac without a amp would be really useless are you sure that you are not looking for a amp with multiple outputs and inputs...

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

DACs with multiple inputs have a "switch" of what input you would like to use.
As Dackzy mentioned, you need a mixer.
Idea is that you would plug all your sources to the mixer and from the mixer you would output to speakers or headphones.
What kind of sources you would like to connect?
