Monitor shuts display off after 2 seconds

Hi there, my monitor did something really strange 5 minutes ago. It turned the display off (the monitor is still on, the capacitive buttons light up) and it won't turn back on unless I power it down. It then stays on for 2 seconds, shows my desktop and then the display dies again. 

 

I tried checking the DVI cable, but nothing changed. Also, since the buttons on the monitor light up I don't think it has anything to do with the connection. Windows also sees the monitor as being connected, even with the display off.

 

Any ideas? Is it dead or should I just leave it to rest a bit (maybe it had a rough day )?The monitor in question is a Samsung SyncMaster P2470HD, one of the sexiest  things alive (well, not so much now I guess).

Sounds like you got some dead/dieing capacitors in there. Time to go monitor-shopping or get you soldering pants on.
