hello i was thinking to build a new PC, and i will just use my old PC to my new office for work, so here is my current spec (its 6 years old PC)

intel core 17 930 (soket 1633LGA)

x28 EVGA SLI Classified

DDR3 triple 6GB

NVIDIA  GeForce GTX  670  ROG STRIKER  4GB GDDR5, ( p.s i just upgrade my graphic card about 2 years a go i think )

600W PSU

okay so i was thinking about this spec for my new com

Intel - Core i7 6700

Asus - Z170-A

Corsair - DDR4 16GB (2x8)

ok so here the problem, because my old PC just for work i think i dont really need good graphic card, so can i just remove my old graphic card to new one?

or i need to buy new graphic card and buy a new PSU? i will replace my old pc with some cheap graphic card,

thank you

It's fine just take the 670 from your work pc and put it into your new. Just make sure you download all the necessary drivers on your new pc with the 670. For your work pc you can just plug whatever video output on your mobo into your monitor. As for the psu, 600w will plenty. Hope this helps!!!

So you don't want to game then? That card is pretty old...

You won't notice a huge difference with that upgrade.

Last time I checked, the 670 still performs quite well but if you have any budget for a capable new graphics card I suggest he should go for it. How much of your budget do you have left?

It's okay for medium to high settings depending on the game but you won't be maxing out anything at 1080p. The performance difference between the 930 and the 6700k isn't as big as one may think. It's definitely there, but I don't really see it as a game changer. I would go with something like 4790k, z97, and put the extra money into a better graphics card.

True, but the 6700k has a more consistent overclocking experience than the 4790k if you do plan on overclocking. How much money do you have left for a new GPU if you do have any left?

Eh, not really. It's all based on the silicon lottery. Skylake does bring some architectural improvements but they aren't really a big deal for most. Performance wise, it is only about 5% faster.

Pretty sure the 930 doesn't have integrated graphics, so he will need a standalone card.

Why? It's an i7. I have a 920 that I turned into a server but prior to that it was my main gaming rig until I built the one in my sig. I barely noticed a difference.

This doesn't make sense lol. You're saying the graphics card would make the i7 work slower? Typically the CPU bottlenecks a GPU because it can't keep up, the i7 should do fine.

Other way around....say if they're playing Arma 3...won't the GPU bottleneck the CPU??
