Hi,

For my ~ 1000$US gaming/ streaming pc, I'll have an i7 5820k with r9 390 and 16 GB of RAM and also a 1 TB HD. I want an SSD, I'm thinking 500 GB? Mostly for my OS, browsing etc. among other programs as I am willing to invest in speed. But I am not very tech savvy when it comes to SSDs, all the SATA, PCi, m.2 and stuff all confuses me. Any help with choosing an SSD would be greatly helpful.

Thanks!

I can make you a build, but I need a few specifics:

1. Do you need peripherals? (monitor, keyboard, etc.)

2. Do you have a preference on case size?

3. preference on color?

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

Look at Crucial BX200, Mushkin Reactor or SanDisk. All 3 have good products and they are good pricing. In Canada you're looking at $.36 per GB which is great. US is much, much cheaper. Sigh.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

What would your max budget be for the SSD?

I haven't decided on keyboard/monitor yet but I think I want a white ATX mid sized case. Also ideally I'd like to keep an SSD around $150 if possible

I dont know if you'll fit a 5820k and a 390 in $1000 if you also need peripherals

Yea it will be difficult with the budget, but I also planned on that budget just for the pc and not peripherals for now. I'm also considering foregoing an HDD and ssd and going with a hybrid. Or still get a 1 TB HDD and a smaller ssd. For streaming games, what sized ssd would suffice? Let's say I put the os and a couple games on the ssd

Hybrid drives are obsolete, if anything, drop the HDD and stick with the 500GB SSD until you have the budget.

BTW, a few dollars (literally) more will get you the same SSD in M.2

Thanks guys, for now I do plan on dropping the hhd for a 500 gb ssd instead. Also is m.2 that much faster than standard? Price per performance is it worth it?

I mean, it's like $2 more, and and it's smaller, takes less power and somewhat faster. Not to mention it frees up a drive bay and SATA port.
