Computer logs into black screen

Every time I log into windows 10, I get a black screen with my curser in the middle

I have tried booting into safe mode, no luck

I can press control alt delete and open task manager, but it is the only window I can see

This is the third time in one week that this has happened, I have been fixing it by restoring it to a system image

I don't want to restore it again, please help

Re-install windows?

if you're able to, try creating a new user and see if the symptoms remain.
