Share files through the Internet

VoyexTech

Me and my friends run a youtube channel and we need to transfer files and videos between our pc's the problem is that the files are lossless so if I want to send my friends  a video through dropbox I have to split it into 3-4 part and they have to reassemble it on their end. I can't buy a better dropbox.

So I need a way to transfer files between our computers (windows 10).

The computers are 50+ miles apart.

Can we Link our computers through Windows using out ip's?

Can I make it so they can only access files in a certain location.

Thanks guys I thought if anyone could help it would be you geeks. :)

I have an Anet A8 as my project printer and a i3 MK3 for when I want things to work.

I extrude my own filament and haven't saved a penny yet.

Google Drive not an option? Not too sure on restrictions and all, but worth a look.

A simple way would be to use Google drive. I'm not sure if they've changed it for new accounts, but I get 15GB of free storage that can be shared with anyone with a Gmail account. So each user has 15GB they can use. It also helps keep things organised in folders.

You could also share the files as a torrent.

You could also set up a NAS (preferably at the user with the best internet connection) that all of you have access to. That way you can get 1TB+ storage fairly cheap.

EDIT: As for Windows sharing, it is designed for sharing over LAN, rather than WAN. It's possible, but I wouldn't personally use it.

Setup a VPN that you friend can connect to and make the files on your comuter accessible through Samba (SMB - the Windows network sharing protocol).

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

NAS can work for WAN if you set it up correctly. I'd trust NAS software for WAN sharing more than Windows.

For Windows sharing via VPN, it's possible, but for security reasons I would definitely advise against it.

Set up a VPN.

Install a lite FTP server like Quick'n Easy Ftp Server. Is simple, light on resources and you have complete control over files, users, folders, etc.
