Hi all,

Been a long time viewer but never signed up or posted before, but definitely gained k knowledge but viewing other posts. Now it's my turn I suppose

I'm building a cheap low end HTPC, since I'm sick of those android boxes.

I have purchased this used case from kijiji , NMedia 5000b http://www.nmediapc.com/htpc5000.htm

Now  my original plans were to take my current pc (that is only used by my son for Agario and Roblox and as my plex server for transcoding) which is listed below and put that into this case for the HTPC and then buy cheaper motherboard, CPU, memory to replace in that pc for my son.

Current PC

AMD FX-6300 CPU

Biostar A960G+ motherboard

8GB memory (forget type)

PCI Express 3.0 AMD HD Radeon 7700 Series Video Card

But after reading and searching, I was maybe thinking it best to go with a motherboard with onboard CPU for my HTPC and leave my current PC (for son and plex transcoding) alone. I will take my current Video card HD7700 out of my current PC and use in the HTPC since its not really needed in my current Pc and I have na older model I can replace it with for my son's Agario/Roblox.

so I was thinking of getting a new motherboard with onboard CPU for the HTPC which will lower power consumption and costs and add my video card which is more than capable for 1080p MKV playback, I believe.

question is, which motherboard/cpu combo will be best for 1080p playback?

ASRock Q1900B-ITX Intel® Quad-Core Processor $110+tax NEW

the gigabyte and asrock are all the same processor and i would go with one of those as the intel celeron j1900 is quite a bit more powerful than the amd e 350 in the asus board. as far as which you should choose they're all good quality brands so whichever fits your needs.

First off, thanks for the information and reply

Second, so the intel celeron j1900 paired with a HD7700 Video Card will be powerful enough to play 1080P MKVs?

Thanks

and as far as memory goes for the board ASRock Q1900M it says DDR3 1333, so I assume from searching that is the same DDR3 1333 laptops use? How much memory do you suppose is the very least, 4GB? or 8GB? to start

it would appear so yes.

how would I find out if this motherboard/cpu is 32bit or 64bit?

you could look at the cpu spec sheet on intel's website. I have already checked and can confirm that the cpu supports 64 bit.
