Hi guys! I'm a new poster on the LTT forum.

Basically, I changed my internet connection to Fibre Optics and was given a Fibre Modem/Router with Voice and WAN (TriplePlay 150 is the model) and basically it is not a good router as signal is very weak in my house and the down/up speeds aren't that great. I tested the internet connection with my own NETGEAR D6300 modem/router and achieved the advertised speeds of 100/20. Basically, I need to use the router provided by my ISP to get my landline fully up and running as the router they gave has built in VOICE support with FXS1 ports built in. Is there any way to keep the landline working but use my own router for the internet connection? The way landline works with my ISP is that the Fibre box connects the copper landline to the router which was provided. That router has preconfigured VOICE SIP settings which my router does not have. I also discovered that the ethernet cable from the fibre box to the router must be connected as well as the phone line cable in order for landline to work.

All help will be appreciated.

Your best bet would be contacting your ISP about this.

There is obviously something wrong with the router they gave you.

Well no, plenty of ISPs cheap out on the device they give (likely free) to customers, his requirements are obviously higher.

I would configure the second router to sit behind yours getting DHCP from your router and hope your ISP doesn't require the SIP client to be not behind a NAT.

The  NETGEAR D6300 is a DSL modem/router gateway. It doesnn't produce a phone signal, it uses a phone signal to create the internet connection. The extra WAN port is if you want to put in AP or separate router mode.

What device did you get from your ISP? "Triple Play 150" isn't a model, it's slang. Look for the actual model number, or call your ISP and ask. What device it is will determine if you can use your own router and get telephone. Most time telephone is output from the fiber terminal(ONT).
