I would like to know if I'd get a reasonable performance boost with the 950 pro compared to a traditional sata ssd?

If you are running the 950 pro on an NVME controller (using PCIE) it will perform faster. Will it be noticeable...maybe...depends on the read/write tasks you are performing....general wisdom I have seen is that NVME over PCIE is indeed faster but the cost difference many not be worth it for the average user or gamer.
