Hey all, basically a long time ago on my Dad's birthday he accidentally deleted the video of the event :( I used Recuva to get back the file, and it said it was in excellent condition. The file is the right size and such, but I cant open it for some reason. I have tried a few different media softwares, but none have solved the issue. Any ideas at all?

Thanks!

Do you have QuickTime installed?  Have you tried playing it using something like VLC?

Where was the file stored before it was deleted?  On a memory card, on a hard drive, on a mobile device?

Was on an SD Card then I used Recuva, and the MOV has been sitting on my desktop for a while

Normally what you did should have recovered the file.  How did your dad delete the file, was the card formatted, over written with other data?

What's the brand of the card?

Yea, that's what Recuva is... It searched for the deleted file and it recovered it (that's what the MOV is)

He just clicked delete, which is why the file was recovered so well (not sure why it doesn't play) at this point I think he has overwritten it with new pictures

It was Sandisk I believe

Right click on the MOV file, properties and put a screen cap of the details tab.

Everything else was blank except for this part?  Ok then something is wrong with the file.

Has the memory card been formatted or have you put other files onto the card?

Download a trial version of this software, the Deluxe version, and scan the memory card (if it hasn't been reformatted or over written with data since you used Recuva).

It has tons of new photos over it, probably shouldn't even bother right?

OK let me clarify a few things:

After the video that you want to recover was deleted, new files have been added?

If yes, it is most likely that the original file cannot be recovered.  Though there might still be a tiny chance it can be recovered, but I don't have the memory card to test with some of the data recovery tools I have.
