eSATA issues, please help.

Hello, I have a NexStar HX4 (a 4 drive HDD array thingy) that has both eSATA and USB 3.0. I wanted to use eSATA instead of USB but I ran into a problem, When I plugged it in via eSATA it indicates all drives as active via indicators on the front of the HX4 then it drops all drive but the first. Its the same with my laptop and my Dell 760 desktop. I have tried 2 HX4 units and am out of ideas your help would be appreciated.
