Computer Turning Itself on

Nope, it's being shut down every night. I will look into the Wake-on-LAN though, sometimes the router provided by our cable will reset once in a while. He's pretty strict with shutting it down at night though.

In that case, you might want to check the BIOS, too, to see if it has an option to wake from S5 (shutdown). If so, toggle that off and it should hopefully comply. It's also possible its standby power is getting interrupted somehow at night, and it's set to automatically power on after power failure, which is also something you should be able to toggle off in the BIOS.

So recently, about for a month now my Dad's computer will turn on by itself. Sometimes in the middle of the night, or the day. We aren't sure what could be the issue, or if it's even possible for something else to be turning on the PC. I'm suspicious that it could be the power switch header on the motherboard or the wiring of the power switch itself. Was definitely cheaped out on (made by rosewill). Or maybe the power supply could be to blame? At this point we are clueless.

Is the computer being turned off at night, or put to sleep / hibernate? Depending on the settings, it could be a result of the mouse waking it, or Wake-on-LAN. You can try going into Device Manager, looking for the network adapter and opening its properties dialog, then under Power Management uncheck "Allow this device to wake the computer". You can also do that with the mouse if you want to be sure it's not part of the problem.

If the PC has Intel's Smart Connect Technology enabled, it will also wake the computer from sleep periodically to keep things like e-mail synced (this is really more of a laptop feature but it's there on Intel chipsets since at least the 7-series).

does your motherboard have a dehumidifier feature? mine does and will partially turn itself on (mostly just the fans) from time to time so it can dehumidify the cpu etc. its the most useless feature ive ever seen but im not going to question it and let it do its thing. but usually when i get up in the morning my computer whether or not it was turned off is on either because i left it on or its dehumidifying
