Hi all

Just asking if anyone knows of a good Entry level certification exam in regards to Cyber Security. I'm aware of many but i'm not sure which one to start from. If it helps i already have my CCNA but i'm reaching out to get your input on which exam to go for. Otherwise i'll continue down the Cisco exam path.

Alright thanks in advance for the help.

CCNA Security then where ever in the specturm.

SANS Security are supposed to be rather challenging.

Comptia have the very basic stuff with Secutity+

But what specialisation do you want?, Network Security, Pentesting, Ethical hacker, Network forensics expert?

If you want Network security do CCNA Security first, otherwise look at SANS or EC Council.

Thanks Xdroidie,

Funny you ask about the specialisation, i was going to say networking in the OP, which is true i do but to be honest i'm looking at probably both Network and Forensics.

As for Forensics, i have no clue yet where to start honestly, so i should of asked about that first. Anyway i'm keen for both Networking and Forensics but thanks for your advice, i've been away from the exam world for a couple years and i've forgotten alot of the providers available. Go ahead and name them all if you want :D it will come back to me im sure of it.

Cheers

For forensics in the UK ideally a masters is required, big companies and local enforcement wont look at you without this.

I personally would just follow the security path, I am sure you will gain experience and meet people who can do network forensics in their sleep.

Something like that would be idea, but either way you have a very long way to go, I would get a networking job if you don't already have one, you become exposed to soo much stuff in businesses.

But of course keep up the training

Yeh that's what i was thinking too. There is a Forensics course at University so it looks like i'll enroll into it. Appreciate the advice buddy, very encouraging.

I did the comptia security plus as it was required by my job. I would really recommend it. You can pass it in a week if you study hard and it is required by most DOD jobs.

Good to know, yeh i'm ex military and was exposed to alot of that side of things, so i'll weigh up my options and go from there.

You've both been helpful, it's good to hear from other people then those you work with, so thanks again.
