Hello Everbody,

first of all: It's nice to be here!

In the following you can see the specs of my PC which I originally built to do video editing with it, which worked well for me. But then I got into gaming again and therefore I need an upgrade of my system to get some more FPS while playing.

Asrock 990FX Extreme3 Motherboard
AMD FX 8350
XFX Radeon R7 370 DD
3 ADATA SP 600 120GB Stripe 0 for OS
2 Seagate ST3000VM002 3TB Stripe 0 for Storage
2x G.Skill Trident X f3-2400c10d-16gtx 16GB, 32GB Quadro-Channel DDR3 Ram

Zalman CNPS9700 CPU Cooler
3 Enermax T.B. Silence VR 120mm Fans
Zalman 500W Power Supply
Cooler Master Silencio 550 Case

I know the RAID 0 for Storage is risky and since I've got no other backup I should consider rearranging the array at some time. But it gave me double the disk speed on these Seagate ST3000VM002 and that was very tempting. I've been using Samsung HDDs in Stripe 0 for years and never anything really bad happend.

I need you to give me some advice on my graphics: That one card seemed enough when I recently bought it, but playing games with it is not really a pleasure.
When I saw the LG Electronics 29UM67-P Ultawidescreen Monitor on one of LinusTechTips I really wanted to have one.

But now I fear an even worse bottleneck of the graphics Card when I will be using that Monitor with higher resolitions or maybe I even wanna go with the 34 inch Model with features an even bigger resolution.

I wanna have the most pleasureful gaming experience by putting in as little money as possible. But what should I do? Get another XFX R7 to Increase perfomance or get a totally different Card? If possible can I stick with my Power Supply? I calculated a Power Consumption of 360Watts TDP, adding another XFX R7 with 150 Watts TDP might work.
But perfomance wise isnt it always better having a good card rather then two medium model cards?

Being able to play, lets say Fallout 4, in a 21:9 resolution in ultra details, is to achieve.

Thank you for your attention,
peace horst.

I would sell the R7 370 and get a R9 390, CF of cheaper cards is never the best option.

Sell the 370 and get 380X or a 390, they'll be much more capable cards for your needs.

Ok, thank you so far. I'm getting the point, that there is probably no reasonable way to keep my card, even if want to save some money. Should I wait until march for the new generations of GPUs to come, to save some money on the R9 or will it not make so much of a difference? And which R9 would you recommend specifically? I prefer those models with the best stock coolers on it in terms of perfomance and loudness. My R7 I just picked very quickly cause of the cheap price and the lot of RAM on it.

And with only one Card my PSU should be just fine? No? I just looked up that it is about 275 Watts TDP for the 390X. According to http://powersupplycalculator.net/ I would need a 533W PSU with a system load power of 426 Watts? Would you agree or disagree?

Seems that I have to reach a little bit further down into my pockets.

I was just searching the web until I got that your talking Nvidia. I've always been a fan of both AMD and Nvidia. But now since AMD bought ATi it was the natural choice to buy an AMD GPU. Isn't the overall Perfomancy better if you keep Chipset, CPU and GPU aligned. And if we are talking fps/$ how do they get along? (I'll hit google with those questions as well).

Thank you,

25 minutes ago, Alexokan said:

I'd get a lower TDP card so I didn't have to replace the PSU (ie. 970).

That PSU is still shit.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

But wheres the point in buying a new one, when this still works. I think Nvidia sounds like a really good option to me. But I'll probably should wait a month or two to buy, sicne I expect prices to drop. Whats shit a bout a Zalman 500W PSU if it suits the machine?

peace

edit:

In the end Overclocking my XFX R7 370 DD 4GB worked very well for me. I clocked the GPU to 1100Mhz and Memory Clock @ 1450, which is freakin awesome with the stock cooler and some case fans.

I'll wait another Month for upcoming Cebit, which will lead to a price Drop, and then buy a new card. Still I have to decide between an R9 or an 960. But I think I'm gonna stick with the red team. Maybe I'll go for a nano.

thanks for the help so far.

peace
