Hello guys,

I recently buyed a new rig but i encountered a serious problem,

actual build;

i7-6700k

asus viii gene

corsair vengeance lpx (4x4 GB)

and i used some old stuff (budget limitation)

old 700w psu (80+ silver)

and 1 sapphire hd 6870

i installed everything and the pc do just fine but when i installed the gpu the mobo recognize it only if i put it in the 8x slot, not in the 16x one.

so i have the last bios update for mobo and i updated the vbios of the gpu, wednesday i hope  a friend of mine will took his video card here to test it out.

the strange things is that the card fans spins so i don't think it's the card and i was guessing there are maybe some compatibility issues with this new chipset?

or i just got a bad mobo with a faulty pcie slot?

Which pcie slot did you use?

And do you have something else plugged into the pcie or m.2 slots?

if i put the card on the first 1 (the nearest to the cpu) it doesn't get recognized (i look if it's recognized in the bios)

on the second one it get recognized and works but it's an 8x slot

That's because the second slot is only a 8x slot electrically. That the top slot isn't working is a concern, do you have a different GPU to test with or a different PC to test the GPU with? If not, it shouldn't be a problem anyways: Your GPU won't be bottlenecked by an PCIE Gen 3.0 8x slot.

by any chance, with the card in the 1st PCIe do you have video output from the on-board?

if yes, go into BIOS and change 1st video to PEG

see page 3-26 of the manual: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/1828/2290/9f/dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/MAXIMUS_VIII_GENE/E10484_MAXIMUS_VIII_GENE_UM_WEB.pdf

i already tryed that, i enabled dual monitor and connected both the video card and the on board gpu to two different monitor, black on the monitor connected to the gpu

well ... the issue at hand could be quite complicated since top two PCIe connectors have PCIe lanes directly from the CPU

---

what you could also try is to change PCIe configuration to PCIe gen 2, the HD6870 is a PCIe gen2.1 card

see manual page 3-27 top

don't you think it's possible that the video card is not compatible with the new lga 1151?

the short answer, no

the long one ... no

the LGA1151 tech specs should be here: https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/desktop-6th-gen-core-family-datasheet-vol-1.html

but for some reason, I can't download it; possible maintenance on Intel's domain

le: nah .. it's not there

hello, sorry for beign late but i maybe found somethings, i installed aida64 and when i check motherboard-chipset-pcie controller i only see 1 controller that says port #2, it maybe means that the controller on port 1 is not recognized?

edit:

when i connected the card aida shows the 2 pcie slot...
